Nurtured by Nature, Crafted with Love - Our Voyage to Hospitality
Welcome to Matsya – our serene haven designed for global sports fishing enthusiasts and travellers seeking an unparalleled island retreat. Our story, deeply rooted in a passion for the sea and its magnificent creatures, began with a simple yet ambitious vision by us, brothers Ali and Qutub. With years of experience operating AGF and Captain Hook's Sports Fishing in Havelock Island, Qutub realised the need for accommodation that went beyond the ordinary, inspiring us to create a place that feels like a warm, inviting sanctuary. Our journey took its first steps in 2017, when we meticulously selected a tranquil spot away from the hustle and bustle, yet conveniently close to the stunning Radha Nagar beach and Kala Pathar beach, with the market merely 2 km away. Our dream materialised in the form of Café 4, nestled in the heart of Shyam Nagar, or Havelock No. 4, with guest accommodations following suit on the first floor.
In bringing Matsya to life, every member of our family played a pivotal role, infusing the space with love, dedication and a touch of uniqueness. Eschewing the conventional path of hiring a professional architect, we entrusted a structural engineer to ensure the integrity of our vision, focusing on creating spaces that marry functionality with aesthetic appeal. The result is a property filled with distinctive details, from cement oxide finishes and antique-style switches to traditional brass finish accessories, each element thoughtfully chosen to enrich the guest experience. Despite logistical challenges and the unforeseen trials brought on by the Covid pandemic, our perseverance and collective spirit saw us through nearly five years of hard work. Matsya opened its doors on April 1, 2022, a testament to our unwavering commitment and a dream realised under the guidance and inspiration of our beloved mother. Her belief in offering the kind of hospitality we would desire for ourselves has been our guiding light.
Matsya, meaning 'fish' in Sanskrit, mirrors our connection to the ocean. Each of our seven rooms bears the name of majestic big sports fish, creating a thematic sanctuary for our guests. In line with our commitment to tranquillity and a plastic-free environment, we've chosen not to serve alcohol and provide RO-filtered water in eco-friendly containers, ensuring a peaceful and sustainable stay. The latest jewels in our crown are the Manta Ray and Sting Ray, two new studio-style duplex rooms on the ground floor that promise an equally enriching experience. You'll often find us, Ali, Qutub and Nafisa, Qutub's better half, personally ensuring that every aspect of your stay at Matsya exceeds expectations. Join us at Matsya, where the art of relaxation is rediscovered, and every stay weaves into the cherished tales of your island adventures. We're here to create unforgettable memories together, in a place where serenity meets personalised hospitality. Welcome to our boutique hotel, where every guest becomes part of our extended family.
