Port Blair Connectivity: Gateway to Your Andaman Adventure
Veer Savarkar International Airport (IXZ) in Port Blair serves as the crucial entry point to this archipelago, connecting the islands with mainland India and increasingly, the world.
Reaching Port Blair from India
• By Air – Domestic Hub: Port Blair is well-connected to several major Indian cities by air. Direct flights are available from Chennai and Kolkata, with a flight time of approximately 2 hours from either city. Occasional direct flights also operate from Delhi, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, and Bhubaneshwar. Connecting flights are available from other cities such as Kochi, often routing through Mumbai, New Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram, or Chennai.
• Airlines – Major Indian airlines such as Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Vistara operate flights to Port Blair. Akasa Air has also increased connectivity with daily services.
• Flight Frequency – Airlines periodically adjust their schedules to meet passenger demand.

By Sea
• Mainland Connections – Passenger ships connect Port Blair with Kolkata, Chennai, and Visakhapatnam.
• Voyage Duration – The journey by sea takes approximately 50 to 60 hours.
• Ship Services – Ships such as MV Nancowry, MV Nicobar, MV Harshavardhana, M.V. Swaraj Dweep, and M.V. Akbar sail between these ports and Port Blair.

TIP
If you are planning to visit another island on the day of your arrival, check beforehand if your flight arrival time at Port Blair allows you to connect with a ferry to other islands on the same day.
Getting Around the Islands
• Inter-Island Ferries – Regular ferry services connect Port Blair to other islands like Havelock, Neil, Little Andaman, and Diglipur. Private ferries such as Makruzz, Green Ocean, Nautika are available from Haddo Jetty. Government-operated ferries also connect islands and operate from Phoenix Bay Jetty.
• Inter-Island Air Connectivity – Helicopter services are available (but follow an erratic schedule) from Port Blair to other islands such as Neil, Havelock, and Diglipur. Not recommended unless you have a flexible schedule. Note: Only one hand bag per person is allowed.
